Sister Catherine rides again! 2 P, Sunday, August 10, 2025, Fort Walla Walla Museum.

Sister Catherine (Sisters of Providence, Daughters of Charity, Servants of the Poor) returns to Fort Walla Walla Sunday, August 10, 2 P. She headed the Nisqually Mission’s St. Vincent Female Academy in Walla Walla from 1869 to 1878, and was an early and persistent advocate for the establishment of St. Mary Hospital, which continues to this day as Providence/St. Mary in Walla Walla.

If you think a nun’s life is placid and dull, think again! Sister Catherine and her colleagues from the Providence mission in Vancouver, Washington Territory, lived as rugged and hardworking a western existence as any pioneer.
