Layers of black v. scant white! A cavernous straw hat v. clip on hair! Chastity, poverty and obedience v. wealth, defiance and Chardonnay! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s- –

A week of contrasts!!

Your overuse of exclamation points is a sign of literary immaturity.

I know, Lily, but it’s been that kind of week!

Will you settle down, please?

Okay, fine. I’ll put it as plainly as I can: On Sunday I was a nun. Tomorrow I will be a Greek goddess.

The costuming for these two portrayals is at ironic odds with the weather. Sister Catherine made her presentation as the temperature neared 100 degrees. She gave her talk indoors, but unfortunately Fort Walla Walla Museum was experiencing some electrical issues and the air conditioning wasn’t at its best.

As a nun on Sunday: Sister Catherine of the Sisters of Providence shared her history at Fort Walla Walla Museum.

Saturday, when Hera appears at Book & Game, is the first day in a long time there’s rain in the forecast. A 45% chance of rain, to be precise! It’s expected to be in the mid-60s by 11 AM, when the book signing starts.

Hera, Goddess of Book Signing, celebrates the 10th Birthday of “Small-g City” August 16!

Cookies will be served in honor of Small-g City’s 10th birthday!

I’ll be there!

I know you will, 9. I also have two book totes featuring Small-g City cover art for a giveaway.

Totes! A chance at this fabulous giveaway (from T Walla Walla) happens August 16 at Book & Game, 11 A-2 P!

I could use one of those. How does one win?

One will be awarded through a drawing at the event- -anyone may enter. The other may or may not be given away Saturday, as it’s earmarked for whoever buys the tenth book of any title in my fantasy/mythology series that day. Sad to say, not all book signing events meet this sales mark. In the past I’ve sold as few as two, and as many as eighteen.

Are you going to abase yourself now and beg whoever is reading this to be there?

Yes, even though it smacks of shameless self-promotion! I would love to get my books in the hands of interested readers and have them experience a world not so different from our own but where a certain group of people live an exceedingly long time and have many enviable skills. Plus, all of the conflicts, sorrows and victories that we mortals understand so well. True love! Bitter enmity! Identity crisis! Secret babies! Corporate sabotage!

There you go again with the exclamation points.

What I really want to know about are the cookies?

Three dozen sugar cookies from Wheatland Bakery of Walla Walla, frosted in light blue with the number 10 in yellow squiggled on top. The kind folks at Book & Game have okayed this bit of festivity. Because, you know, a tenth birthday is pretty special.

Who knows, maybe I’ll get one someday? Until then, I’ll settle for a cookie.

We’ll be at Book & Game (at First & Main) 11 A-2 P Saturday, August 16. Cookies. A giveaway (or two). And for anyone who wants one, complimentary bookmarks featuring your choice of artwork from Beyond Big-G City or Crisis in Big-G City (a popular one, by virtue of Poseidon’s abs. . .).  Groveling and begging aside, I truly enjoy meeting all kinds of readers and talking to them about my books and the books they already love.

Hope to see you there!
