Would a baby heal the unhappy marriage of Hades and Persephone?

While violently hung-over Hades mopes in the Underworld, Persephone pines for a baby in- – Yakima, WA?

Week Fourteen:

October 3rd through 9th, 2025

Following last night’s wager lonely Hades called Anatole back and insisted they down another bottle (or two) of wine. He awakes Friday, October 3rd with a throbbing head and a mouth that tastes like a well-worn sandal. Hades summons Anatole (who has a hollow leg for drinking) and orders him to prepare one of his special hang-over tonics. He learns he has slept the entire day. No wonder he’s starving! Sending Anatole away to order a heavy breakfast, Hades texts Persephone: Lonely as Hell, please come home soon. Her reply: No later than November 5, well past the October 17 date he’d bet on!

Wednesday, October 8 finds Persephone feeling end-of-harvest melancholy in Yakima, Washington, USA. At least this region, known for fruit and wine grapes, was spared the worst effects of climate change, but what about next year? What will become of the migrant farm workers and their beautiful children? If she could only take one with her! Though being mortal, they’d only last a few decades, the poor things. Unable to believe Hades truly misses her (if he did he’d come see her in the upper world!), Persephone cries. Rain falls. She longs for more time away from him, laments that she didn’t embellish her Underworld ETA for December.

Next is a long flight to Europe, there to meet her mother, Demeter, for the end-of-harvest debriefing and their annual mother-daughter retreat at a Swiss Alps resort. Mother will cry when Persephone descends into the Underworld. Mother always said marriage wasn’t easy. Mother was divorced. . .

Can Hades’ and Persephone’s marriage be saved by a baby? Or by ANYTHING?
