Security breach in the Underworld!
Week Ten:
August 29-September 4, 2025
Continuing their mission to find the point of entry for Underworld gate crashers, Hades and his loyal valet, Anatole, venture to the third and final Underworld realm: Elysium, home to the very best of souls. In contrast to the fiery, fetid pits of Tartarus or the faded glory of Asphodel, Elysium is a paradise of rolling green lawns and bounteous orchards. When they visit on September 3, 2025, Anatole’s leak detector won’t boot up! They conduct their reconnaissance the old fashioned way, studying the perpetually blue-skied paradise as they stroll.
“Sky clear, grass green, apples ripe,” Hades dictates to Anatole. Anatole suggests they interview the arborist, who manages the place, the goddess Freya, who signed on when she became bored with her Norse Pantheon duties. She’s a charming host and eagerly treats them to a new hybrid, the perfect cross of cherry and apple. When questioned about possible gate crashers, Freya notes there’s been a small upward variance in resident fruit consumption per capita but attributes this to the souls of mortals eating more now than they used to.
As Hades and Anatole head back toward Hades’ palace, Anatole points up. There’s a faded patch of white in the center of the pale-blue painted sky dome!
Hades grumbles about deferred maintenance, but- –
